This is an Italian produced type I Carcano. This weapon was produced in Italy for the Japanese army. It was a gesture of good will between the two axis powers. The rifle is in nice shape and still in 6.5 Japanese caliber (not 6.5 Carcano - completely different round). This particular rifle is in nice shape. The wood is not sanded or altered. There are no cracks in the stock. The Italians even made the butt stock to Japanese spec with the two piece butt stock. The bore is bright and shiny with lots of rifling remaining. The metal has between 50-60% original finish with a fine layer of brown patina under the finish. As with all Italian made weapons, the bolt does not bear a number. The only part with a serial number on the weapon is the barrel. The rifle is complete and is not missing any parts. Great addition to any Japanese or Italian collection.
